In January, the retail trade fell by seasonally-adjusted 10.3% YoY.
In the second month of 2010, non-food, food, drinks and tobacco sales fell 9.1% while automotive fuel in specialized stores dropped 6.4%.
Compared to January, retail trade turnover (excluding vehicles and motorcycles sales), adjusted for working days and seasonal effects decreased 0.4% in February, weighed down by the 0.9% decline in automotive fuel in specialized stores, that failed to be offset by the 1.1% growth in non-food, and 0.4% in food, drinks and tobacco.
In gross series, retail trade turnover dropped 2.9% from January.
In the first two months of 2010, seasonally-adjusted retail trade turnover (excluding vehicles and motorcycles) decreased by 9.7% versus Jan-Feb period 2009, after 12.2% drop in non-food, 9.9% decline in food, drinks and tobacco, and 8.2% in automotive fuel in specialized stores.
In gross series, retail trade turnover for the two months ending February 28 fell by 10.3%.
The total value of the Romania’s retail trade declined by 10.4% in 2009 year on year to 195.4 billion lei (€46.2billion), and could drop further this year, by an estimated 2.3% to 2.3 billion lei, according to the findings of “Retail in Romania 2010” report by consulting company PMR
