In the local market, only Vodafone provides mobile internet services at such speeds. The telecom carrier launched these services in fall last year.
In September 2009, Zapp said it would make these facilities available in its network. Zapp was acquired in summer last year by Cosmote.
The third largest carrier in Romania unveiled its first broadband internet offer for residential customers in January this year.
Last year, Cosmote recorded revenues of €423 million and a customer base of around 7 million.
Cosmote Romania’s 3G mobile broadband services are available through Connect 3G programs, for mobile Ιnternet and laptop connectivity, offering the highest data volumes and speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps (for example 5GB for €11.9 /month, VAT included).
Complementary to its 3G services launch, Cosmote also offers laptop connectivity through Connect EVDO, offering the widest coverage of high speed Internet, at speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps.
Covering almost 58% of the population, the 3G network offers Internet access with speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps.
In addition to 3G, Cosmote offers mobile internet services with speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps on the CDMA network, utilizing the largest population coverage.
