Top electric cars by price
A number of car manufacturers holding tests for their new electric cars to be rolled out (Volvo, Mini, Renault, Tesla, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Citroen, Geely, Shelby, SuperCars and Smart), but few are those who put a price tag on their battery-powered cars, and decided to begin mass production.
Tesla Motors Roadster - EUR80,900
The 1.5 Roadster accelerates from 0 to 100km in 3.9 seconds, while the 2.0 Roadster rockets from a standstill to 100km in 3.7 seconds.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors said the automaker will roll out up to 1,000 electric sports cars per year.
Tesla Motors sedan - EUR42,600
Tesla sedan has a base purchase price of €42,600 or €37,000 after federal tax credit for electric vehicles.
The electric sedan accelerates from 0 to 100km in 5.6 seconds.
Mitsubishi i-MIEV - EUR32,000
After the €9,000 tax credit for electric vehicles, i-MIEV will cost around €23,000.
Mitsubishi i-MIEV, the first mass-produced electric vehicle in Europe, puts out 64HP.
The electric car is powered by a lithium-ion battery that consists of 22 models, each consisting of four cells, that can be installed either a vertical or transverse position under the i-MIEV’s floor.
The car can go up to 160 km on one charge.
Nissan Leaf - EUR30,100
The automaker set a sales target of 6,000 cars in the first year in Japan. Japanese customers will be able to pre-order Nissan’s EV, and deliveries will begin in December.
At the end of the year, Leaf will be on sale in Europe and US. The price tag for the US market is €24,450 , or €18,856 after tax credits.
The midsize five-seats car will be powered by a lithium battery that allows the car to run 160km on one charge.
The electric car puts out 170HP. The maximum speed is 140 km/h.
The charge time with a home charger is about eight hours or 30 minutes at the fast-charging stations.
Renault Twizy - EUR5,000
Renault Twizy is a two-seats city car derived from the namesake concept presented in 2009.
According to Renault officials, the Twizy will be manufactured in Spain at Valladolid plant.
Twizy’s batteries will put out 20 horsepower, that will allow the car to run 100km on a single charge. The charge time is 3 hours, and the maximum speed is 75km/h.
Twizy measures 2.30 m in length and 1.13 m in width. The car weighs 420km.
The automaker said it plans to launch 4 new electric cars by the end of 2011. Two of these will be manufactured in France, at Flins si Maubeuge plant, and the other two in Valladolid Spain and Bursa Turkey.
