Govt disrupts reward program for farmers in 2010

The Minister of Agriculture, Mihail Dumitru said earlier today that there was no possibility to obtain derogation from the European Commission for the extension of farm aids that could no longer be offered as of this year, adding the ministry was considering a new form of financial incentive program.
“The program agreed in the accession treaty cannot be extended. The program has expired and there is no possibility to obtain derogation. We will try to replace the reward program that will be disrupted in 2010 with a new incentive scheme in line with the European standards,” said Dumitru.

The Minister of Agriculture will hold today a round of talks with farm associations, including with Agrostar Federation.

Agrostar said it will propose to the minister the extension of the reward program by at least one year, the allocation of 4% of GDP to the Ministry of Agriculture in 2010 and full guarantee of PNDR projects co-funding.
