Car of the Year 2010 in Romania. Seven contenders heading to the final round

The Union of Auto Journalists and Editors in Romania (UZEAR) organized a 3-days test-drive event at Cheia, Prahova, in order to determine the cars eligible for Car of the Year 2010 Award in Romania. The final round will find the winner that will be made known on November 1.

Land Rover Discovery 4

The sole SUV racing for the “Car of the Year 2010 in Romania” prize at Cheia was brought by Premium Auto, importer of Land Rover and Jaguar in Romania.

The model selected for the test drive was the new Discovery 4 that is powered up by a 3.0 TDV6 HSE diesel engine that puts out 245 HP. The car costs around €60,000 (VAT included).

Another car heading into the final round for “Car of the Year 2010 in Romania” award is the 1.9 liters diesel 130 HP Renault Megane Privilege. The car is priced at €17.450 (VAT included).

The new Opel Astra was brought from Germany for the test-drives at Cheia. The car will be launched in early 2010 in Romania. The new Astra will be available for orders as of December.

Importer of Opel in Romania brought the new Astra with its Cosmo trim level that is powered by 1.4 petrol engine that delivers 140HP. The price for Romania is not yet available, but in Germany, the car is priced at €22,400 (VAT included).

Romcar, the official importer of Ford in Romania brought to Cheia the new Fiesta model, launched in Romania earlier this year.

The car that qualified for the final round is powered up by 1.6liter diesel engine that puts out 90HP. The price exceeds €11,500 (VAT included).

Another Toyota car racing for “Car of the Year” award is Avensis.

The model in the competition is powered by 2.2liter diesel engine that puts out 150HP. The car is priced at €25,000 (VAT included).

The models that attended the test-drive session were: Chevrolet Cruze, Citroen C3 Picasso, Ford Fiesta, Honda Insight, Honda Jazz, Land Rover Discovery 4, Opel Astra, Renault Clio, Renault Megane, Toyota Avensis, Toyota IQ, Toyota Prius, Toyota Urban Cruiser. The jury was made up of 26 journalists across the country.
